NCTS Group was formed in 2016 by animator, designer, musician and voice actor Chris Lowe, as "Chris L. Developments and Creative." When demand a more unique name arose, he came up with "NCTStudio" named after a company from "Birdemic: Shock and Terror", inspired by the Hitchcockian film "The Birds". The company's full name was "NitroCellulose Technical Studio". The company's logo was a bird, another allusion to Birdemic and The Birds. Though Birdemic gained poor reception for its bad quality, Chris seemed to enjoy the film, seeing it as a comedy flick rather than a thriller as originally intended. In late 2022, Chris merged all his brands together into a bigger parent company, NCTS Group, with NCTStudio used as the primary production company for the group.

 

Chris spends most of his time in Tennessee, hanging out with friends, playing games or thinking about his next project. He dislikes travelling long distances, so he instead works in the main NCTS headquarters in Tennessee, hoping that one day it would become one of the most beloved small-time independent production companies on Earth, alongside A.K.A. Cartoon, Happy Madison, Twisted Pictures, Cartoon Pizza, Curious Pictures, Titmouse and Mercury Filmworks. Chris plans to make NCTS the first major production company in Tennessee outside of Nashville, though there has been talk about putting more locations across the country.

Most of NCTS' films and shows will be distributed by varying publishers, including Lionsgate, Paramount, Warner Bros., Shout! Studios and Sony Pictures. Some films, as well as games will be self-distributed and released by NCTS through a sister brand, Sanctuary Woods Entertainment. Many of the games by the studio will be made in Unity and/or Unreal Engine. Music by Chris' rock band, The Neverhood, will be released by Sanctuary Woods' music division, Sanctuary Woods Records, distributed by Epic Records (Sony Music) in Nashville, an acceptable trip of two-three hours from NCTS.
